How I'm doubling the sign-up bonus value of my newest credit card

I just opened the Chase Freedom Flex credit card, and I'll explain my trick to double the value of the sign-up bonus.

As of publication, the Chase Freedom Flex is offering $200 cash back after spending $500 within 3 months of opening the card. Continue reading to see how I plan to get around $400 of value from this sign-up bonus.

Pairing two cards together

The key to this trick is that I also have the Chase Sapphire Preferred. One benefit of the Chase Sapphire Preferred is that I can combine my points, meaning that I can move points from my Chase Freedom Flex to my Chase Sapphire Preferred.

After I spend $500 on my new Chase Freedom Flex card, I will earn $200 cash back or 20,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points. By transferring these 20,000 points to my Chase Sapphire Preferred, I instantly earn more value in a few ways.

Chase points have a value of 1 cent per point in the Chase travel portal on the Freedom Flex card, but their value increases to 1.25 cents per point on the Sapphire Preferred card. Instantly, my $200 bonus is now worth $250.

However, since I moved the bonus points to my Chase Sapphire Preferred card, I can transfer the 20,000 points to any of the Chase Sapphire Preferred transfer partners, allowing me to unlock significantly more value.

According to The Points Guy's valuations, Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth 2 cents each, so by transferring my 20,000 bonus points to my Chase Sapphire Preferred, I made my $200 sign-up bonus worth $400 instead.
